I am a Noongar man from Perth. My father is Turkish and my mother is Noongar. I am related to Taylors, Picketts and Haywards. I grew up in both Shepparton Victoria and Perth, Western Australia. Although I call Perth home, Shepparton has a very special place in my heart.

I started high school in Shepparton before moving to Perth. After failing Year 11 I decided to attend TAFE and completed a Certificate in Applied Science (Laboratory Techniques). I then completed the Bridging Course at Edith Cowan University and completed 1.5 years of the Bachelor of Science (Sports Science before transferring to the Bachelor of Health Science (Aboriginal Health and Community Development at The University of Sydney. I graduated from the Bachelor of Health Science program in 2003, and 2004 saw the completion of the Masters of Health Science (Indigenous Community Health) at The University of Sydney.

2005 provided me with the opportunity to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. I am currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Medicine at The University of Newcastle.

I hope to utilize my life experiences and academic achievement to continually support the betterment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

I was very excited at receiving the news of my successful application for the scholarship. It enhances my ability to focus on completing the medical degree. The scholarship releases some of the stresses I carry as a husband and father of two. I intend to use the scholarship funds to support my family in Perth.
