The Cybec Foundation

Travel and other Grants

The Foundation periodically makes travel grants to enable promising individuals to attend international conferences, or to study at overseas universities. It may also make grants to individuals for other worthwhile activities.

Sophie is studying singing at Monash University, and in 2009 won a 'Song-a-thon' contest in aid of the 'Creative Connections' program at Bethlehem Hospital. The prize was to be a trip to London to attend a concert in Covent Garden, and to stay with a classical music teacher. However the promised sponsorship fell through, so the Foundation paid for her airfare.

In 2010 the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra held a dinner to raise funds to purchase a new grand piano. The Foundation purchased a cornet which had been played in the MSO for 30 years by Principal Trumpet Player Geoffrey Payne, and also a modern students trumpet played by Trevor Green at the dinner. These historic instruments will be lent by the Foundation to promising young trumpet players.
